PLATELET APHERESIS PROGRAM

This type of donation uses modern technology to harvest "single donor" platelets for use in treating patients suffering from cancer or other serious conditions.

PLASMA APHERESIS PROGRAM

Donors with AB blood type are needed to donate plasma via aphaeresis. AB plasma can be given to anyone and is needed for patients with bleeding and/or liver problems.

SUPER DONOR PROGRAM

To encourage multiple donations, Medic gives special Super Donor T-shirts to those who give four or more times a year.

AUTOLOGOUS DONATION

Patients facing scheduled surgery may donate blood for their own use. The process must be ordered by a physician, usually the surgeon.

DIRECTED DONATION

If you prefer to have friends or family donate blood for your surgery, this is done through Medic. Again, the physician must order the donations and they must be made at least three working days before the scheduled surgery.

BONE MARROW DONATION

Potential bone marrow donors may sign up for the National Marrow Donor Program through Medic.

November is Bone Marrow Awareness Month

HEMOCHROMATOSIS DONATION

All phlebotomies on persons diagnosed with Hereditary Hemochromatosis  are performed without charge to the donor. If these donors meet all other qualifications of volunteer donors, their blood will be used for patient transfusion. After completed protocol and written approval from personal physician or Medic’s medical director hereditary hemochromatosis donations are acceptable.

Individual Donation

Individual donation me be used for one of the following:
1) Your Own Coverage
2) Replacement
3) Substitution
4) Your Own Additional Coverage

Be sure to eat before you give blood, preferably a high protein, low fat meal. NEVER FAST before donating. On an empty stomach you could become queasy.

Donating is easy and safe. You can probably donate if you are taking blood pressure medication; to verify, call Medic at 865.524.3074 and ask for one of the nurses. However, if you are taking any type of medication for diabetes, you must have written approval from your doctor.
